Vacuum Turning Gantry for Panels

The turning unit offers two distinct “automatic” operating modes:

I. Transfer without rotation
The part is simply shifted sideways, aligned to the reference edge (zero line) of the machining center (BAZ), and then fed forward to the machining process.

II. Transfer with rotation
The part is shifted sideways and additionally rotated along its longitudinal axis before being transferred to the machining center.

Each function can also be operated manually in “hand” mode.

The turning gantry is equipped with a total of 24 vacuum suction pads, ensuring gentle handling of the workpieces.
The elements are always picked up via suction and are either horizontally aligned and transported to the machining center’s zero line or additionally rotated 180° in transit before being positioned to the reference edge.
The rotational movement is monitored by absolute encoders, while the lateral positioning is managed via adjustable photoelectric sensors.
Vacuum is generated by a blower.

The roller table, 8,500 mm x 4,300 mm (with roller diameter 108 mm), features material-friendly rubber rings. Drive is provided by a SEW geared motor.
The roller table is controlled by a frequency inverter, max. speed v = 45 m/min (continuously adjustable).

GENERAL INFORMATION:

The entire area is enclosed by fencing; the machine’s longitudinal section is secured by two sliding doors, both monitored for safety.

The control panel with a 12” touchscreen is built into the fence area.
The installed Siemens S7-1500 PLC is programmed for three operating levels:
• Automatic mode
• Manual mode
• Maintenance mode

Input signals, infeed side:
- Start roller table
- Rotate yes/no
- Emergency stop for entire system

Input signals, outfeed side:
- Start roller table
- Emergency stop for entire system

Output signals, system:
- Emergency stop for entire system
- Part infeed complete
